THE BRIEF

To design and build a large extension to the Seeka Kerikeri facility. The facility packs and stores many different fruit types across all seasons. Works to include the addition of a loadout canopy, curing canopy and bin up canopy.

THE BUILD

The project began with the demolition of existing structures by a separate contractor. Geotechnical surveys initially indicated solid ground however earthworks were delayed when isolated soft areas were discovered. This resulted in programme pressure which was alleviated through changes to the structural steel methodology whereby the roof structure was assembled at ground level. The structure was then lifted using dual cranes, resulting in significant programme gains.

The building materials included structural steel, Colorsteel roofing and cladding, and extensive high-tech lighting for the packing area. Insulated panels were used to create a two-hour fire wall between the new structure and the existing building.

THE OUTCOMES

An enviably executed project, where the challenges of working away from our usual geographical region were managed particularly well by our team. Form are discussing further stage planning with Seeka.
