WhakatÅhea Mussels ÅpÅtiki Ltd enlisted Form in an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) arrangement to collaborate on the initial design stages of a cutting-edge mussel processing facility in ÅpÅtiki. Currently, mussels are farmed in open waters and transported inland for processing. This new facility aligns with the WhakatÅhea MÄori Trust Board’s overarching vision, “Ko te kai hoki i Waiaua” – “To be the food bowl that feeds the world.â
The project comprises two large processing factory buildings interconnected by a drive-through canopy. Various sections or functions within the factories include spaces for chillers, packing, tray-loading, storage, waste management, staff amenities and loading. Adjacent to the factory is a separate office, designed resembling a marae, catering to staff and visitors. This open-plan office features a lunchroom, meeting rooms and a commercial kitchen.
Form, with an established presence in ÅpÅtiki through involvement in local kiwifruit developments, collaborated closely with the client, offering flexibility and expertise. Local subcontractors and suppliers were engaged wherever feasible, contributing to the community’s economic wellbeing.
