The Seeka Kerikeri facility underwent a substantial expansion aimed at accommodating various fruit types throughout the year. The endeavour involved constructing essential additions such as a loadout canopy, curing canopy, and bin up canopy.
The initiative commenced with the demolition of existing structures by a different contractor. Despite geotechnical surveys initially indicating solid ground, earthworks were delayed when isolated soft areas were discovered. To mitigate program pressures, the project adapted by altering the structural steel approach, assembling the roof structure at ground level. Dual cranes were employed to lift the structure, yielding significant program efficiencies.
Building materials included structural steel, Colorsteel roofing, cladding and advanced lighting for the packing area. Additionally, insulated panels were utilised to establish a two-hour fire wall between the new and existing structures. The project’s success in a non-native location prompted discussions for further stages with Seeka.
