The construction of a new four-storey accommodation wing at Novotel Tainui in Hamilton increased the facility’s capacity by successfully adding 40 guest rooms. The project aimed to minimise disruption to current guests while providing an additional 1,200m² of floor space, excluding the undercroft area.
Entirely seismically separated from the existing building, the new building mirrors the design and furnishings of the hotel’s original rooms. Featuring aluminium cladding, extensive glazing, and an undercroft area to maintain the current entry and exit turning circle, the project seamlessly integrated with the existing structure.
Despite its challenging and complex nature, the construction progressed exceptionally well, resulting in a defect-free delivery that surpassed client expectations. This achievement followed an extensive upgrade to the original building’s bathrooms, reinforcing the positive working relationship between Form and Waikato Tainui.
