This central Mount Maunganui location underwent a substantial transformation, marking a significant upgrade. The client’s directive was to create distinctive, high-end multi-retail spaces that would leave an indelible impression on this prominent site. Mount Central now boasts approximately 1,315m² of retail space in downtown Mount Maunganui, featuring a restaurant, café, various retail shops, and parking facilities.
The project initiated with the demolition of three existing structures, including the reconstruction of Sunny’s as an integral part of the endeavour. The new construction comprises two single-level retail buildings linked by a canopy, utilising exposed structural steel, unique natural claddings, and varying roof heights to amplify the structure’s aesthetic appeal.
Form executed several retail fitouts within the space, including establishments such as Sal’s Pizza, Sunny’s, and the Rabbit Hole Café and Restaurant. Positioned as a contemporary and stylish landmark, Mount Central stands as a silver award recipient at the 2019 New Zealand Commercial Project Awards, solidifying its status as a premier destination in one of New Zealand’s cherished holiday spots.
