Form was engaged in this pioneering venture with the Mangatawa Pāpāmoa Blocks Inc (MPBI) to design and build an iconic administration building to house the management and operational staff of MPBI.
Nestled strategically on the northern slope of Mangatawa Maunga, the headquarters overlook the encompassing land, properties, and Mount Maunganui (Mauao). The 380m² office space, adorned with exposed laminate beams, high raking ceilings, and expansive decking, captures the essence of the Hapu o Ngā Pōtiki, Tauranga Moana Iwi, Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāi Te Rangi, and Ngāti Pūkenga, along with the profound connection to the land (whenua) and sea (te moana).
Noteworthy is the roof, designed in the shape of a whale’s tail, narrating the traditional tale of ‘Te Wai o te Tohorā’ – The Legend of Mangatawa. The meticulous project, boasting sculptural carvings, water features, and integrated parking and road networks, aligns seamlessly with the Mangatawa Papakainga, business subsidiaries, and the Mangatawa Marae. This award-winning endeavour signifies a lasting legacy, a testament to a harmonious collaboration between Form and the client, resonating pride among all contributors for generations to come.
