THE BRIEF

A major apartment remediation of the iconic “Hallensteins” building in central Hamilton. All 30apartments to be vacated however the retail area on the ground ﬂoor to remain open during the remediation period.

THE BUILD

The remediated six storey building features a new, simpliﬁed roof structure. Mechanical services are upgraded throughout. The entire building is has a new cladding system comprising of NuWall and Stoplaster. Exterior timber framing has been replaced and decks have new water proof membrane and downpipe systems. Existing balustrades are replaced with modern compliant products. A number of other refurbishments will include refurbished lifts, new glazing, powder coated windows and doors, a new entrance canopy, and new downpipes and gutters.

New linings, ﬁttings and paint throughout many of the areas serve to make this iconic building ﬁt for modern apartment living.

THE OUTCOMES

As the project evolved there were a number of scope changes and issues; a common scenario for projects of this nature. Our experienced project team and specialist remediation knowledge allowed us to mitigate risks and solve problems, all the while keeping the stakeholders informed of progress. The challenging site has been well-managed and retail shops have been able to remain trading with minimal disruption.
