THE BRIEF

To design and build a landmark administration building to house the management and operational staff of the Mangatawa Papamoa Blocks Inc (MPBI). The build will embody the unique connection between the Hapu O Nga Potiki, Tauranga Moana Iwi, Ngati Ranginui, Ngaiterangi and Ngati Pukenga, the whenua (land) and te moana (sea). The roof is to be shaped in the form of a whale tale, encompassing the traditional story of ‘Te Wai O te Tohora’– The Legend of Mangatawa.

THE BUILD

A Design & Build project for the new headquarters of MPBI. Strategically sited on the northern slope of Mangatawa Maunga, overlooking the incorporation’s land, property and Mount Mauao.

The building includes a total of 380m2 of office space, featuring exposed laminate beams and columns, high raking ceilings, expansive decking, a large entrance canopy, sculptural carvings, water features, new car-parking and roading; linking the new building to the Mangatawa Papakainga, business subsidiaries and the Mangatawa Marae. Every aspect of the build reflects a strong cultural and historic connection.

THE OUTCOMES

Completed to the highest standards, this is a truly unique build and all involved in the project are proud to be a part of what will be a legacy for future generations. The multiple award-winning project was made possible by a strong collaborative relationship between Form and the client.
