Form NZ takes out supreme title
Form Building and Developments
Manufacturing/Distribution
Westpac Business of the Year 2008
AS a new company with young owner/directors, Form Building & Developments tended to be overly critical of its own performance and procedures, says its CEO Shannon Moyle.
‘‘We believed in ourselves, but had never been able to measure ourselves against other businesses, rather than just our building peers,’’ he says in explaining the reasons for entering the Westpac business awards.
But by any measure, Form is now first class as the newly crowned winner of the Westpac Business of the Year
2008 Award.
‘‘The competition is huge in the building sector, with different levels of finish and service.
‘‘We always knew our standards would pay off. We put up against the best, and came out on top,’’ says Shannon.
With fellow owner/directors Matt Sands and Andy Dew, he has taken the company created by the 2007 merger of Moyle Construction and Eaton Developments to the top; making it as a finalist in four categories:
Manufacturing/Distribution Award, which it won, and
Community Service/Social Responsibility Award;
Workplace Safety Award; and
Excellence in Brand, Marketing and Design Award.
‘‘The judges asked some pretty heavy questions,’’ recalls Shannon. ‘‘There was us up against eight or nine judges.
‘‘The Business of the Year award benchmarks the professional manner in which we go about our business, and such acknowledgement is vital for the market we are driving for.
’’Form specialises in top-end residential and commercial design and builds. ‘‘This award gives us exposure.
People know you have won the Business of the Year and it gives our clients a level of confidence, and gives us an edge over our rivals. It will certainly help our case where we are already in a tendering process.’’
He says another boost is the encouragement its gives to the whole team at Form to keep doing things well, and to keep improving.
‘‘It is magnificent to win it. We do try hard. The process pushed our people to look back at the core values that got us here, and to make it the basis for going forward. ‘‘Some are quite basic values — what the clients want and what our people love.’’
Shannon says it was ‘a big wow’ on the night, as the Form table was full of the people who had been a big driving force behind the entry process, people such as administration manager Julie James and business development manager Alan Winstanley.
‘‘Our wives were there as well. They are a real big part of what we do. Without their support, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve this.’’
